OBITUARY

Elder Albert Leroy Brown was born on May 12, 1935, to Marie Brown and Richard Mills in Riverhead, NY.  He was raised in Riverhead and received his formal education in the Riverhead Central School District.

Elder Brown is a member of the Montaukett Indian Nation where he served as the Spiritual Advisor and was a member of  the Executive Council.  His Native American name was “Pathfinder.”

He was an avid reader; he loved his “babies” (that’s what he called his books).  He was a true servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ, a great preacher, “rightly dividing the word of truth.”

On July 31, 1954, Elder Brown married the “Love of His Life” - Florence Wingfield.  To this union was born two sons: Richard and Jeffrey.  For 67 years, they remained a loving couple.

Elder Brown worked for the United States Postal Service for several years.  While working as a mail carrier, he met a new friend - a shaggy dog named BB who would help him deliver the mail every day.

In 1967, Elder Brown was installed as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Southampton and was deeply loved by all of the members.   Every Sunday the church was packed.   On special occasions, people would have to stand outside of the church because there was no room inside.   In 1973, Pastor Brown’s work was completed at the First Baptist Church of Southampton.

In January of 1974, Elder Brown was installed as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bay Shore, NY.   Under his ministry, over 40 ministers were licensed and ordained.  Pastor Brown emphasized the importance of Christian Education.   He established the Baptist Training Union, Minister’s Council and weekly prayer services.

On June 14, 1981, the church had grown to capacity and they broke ground for expansion.  Under Pastor Brown’s ministry, the “Hour of Power” was started and was held from 6 -7 AM.  A Hi-Tech Computer and Office Skills Program for the youth in the community was instituted and was supervised by Sister Virginia Bull.

After 34 years of pastoring the First Baptist Church of Bay Shore, NY and earning an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Theology, Pastor Brown stated he had to take some time to “Re-fire”.

From 2009 – 2012, the Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Central Islip was without a pastor.   Pastor Brown would fill in as a visiting Pastor, Under Shepherd and conducted Business Meetings.

In 2010, Elder Brown became a member of Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, NY under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Roy L. Pennon. Sr.   At Galilee, Pastor Brown served as one of Pastor Pennon’s Special Assistants and also taught the New Members’ Classes. After the demise of Pastor Pennon, Pastor Brown was the speaker for Communion Sundays.

Pastor Albert Brown often said, “When the Lord gets ready for me , I’m going to ask Him, “Have I done all you have for me to do ?”  Well, on Thursday, October 7, 2021, Elder Brown completed all that the Lord had for him to do and he received his ultimate healing.

Memories of him will always be cherished by his loving wife:  Florence, his two sons:  Richard (Velvet) and Jeffrey; his grandchildren: Shablis, Amanda and Spencer.; great-grandchildren:  Anthony, Jamia and Landon;  one sister-in-law: Roxanne (Joseph), a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and friends.  He also leaves a special childhood friend: Donald Jackson.
